Picked this up from the FFL last weekend. A Chinese Type 56 from a secondary nation, preserved in cosmoline grease. Started wiping this relic down with mineral spirits and WD40. Just field-stripped to the various components for further degreasing. Wood is a bit gouged and dinged, but that's expected. Plenty of bluing though. Should make for a nice shooter once the dad-blasted lockdown ends. Uses the popular M43 7.62x39mm Combloc cartridge.
This one has a spike bayonet and in overall better condition than one obtained some years ago: Cracked stock, blade bayonet, and most bluing gone.

Very nice. I have a very similar model, Vietnam war era and a real workhorse. If you want to bring up some of the dings and dents in the wood, place a wet, but not soaked, folded over rag over each area and apply a hot iron to the rag, pressing down til the hissing stops. Careful not to scorch the wood! This raises up the dinged wood. Do this on each dent until you are happy then apply your favorite wood cleaner/treatment.
Be sure the firing pin floats absolutely freely. I had a friend who did clean his Yugo M59/66 and forgot about the bolt.
So he loaded the gun with 10 rounds, slammed the bolt forward and off the line to clean the bolt to as he had a) a slam fire and several followers. Not a great thing for a first try.
