Nightlight is a highly gifted unicorn, yet she has special needs. She has Unicorn Syndrome, which is similar to Asperger's Syndrome. Nightlight is great at math, science, and casting "spells". But she's had a hard time connecting with people.
Her big brother, White Night, has been like her guardian angel. He is one of few who have managed to win her affection. Since he was little, he has had a natural charm and sense of diplomacy.
Thanks to his kindness and emotional intelligence, White Night got to know the rulers of the Starpony Kingdom. Princess Skysparkle is now training both him and Nightlight to be future rulers. They must learn how to be big brothers and sisters for all their fellow creatures.
Nightlight was born into great wealth. But now it is time for her to live as a common pony in a small village. Skysparkle reminds her that Jesus was born into a poor family. Moreover, Skysparkle is not asking her student to do anything she's never been through.
Skysparkle knows what it's like to suffer as an outcast. When she was born, unicorns were a despised race of creatures. As an alicorn, Skysparkle was in even greater danger. Over 1000 years ago, the world was ruled by two monsters called Chaos and Disarray. It was a world that knew little about friendship — but a lot about fear and hate. Chaos called himself the Father of Monsters, and Disarray called herself the Mother of Enemies.
Skysparkle and her family helped rescue their fellow unicorns. They founded a kingdom where all creatures could be friends. Skysparkle already had one loved one who was not a unicorn: her own father. Her father was an earthbound pony. Moreover, the unicorns never were truly alone. They always had a few friends from other races. No matter what cruel enemies they faced, their leaders were determined not to let fear and revenge take over.
Nightlight did her homework on paper. Now it is time to live it in practice. White Night and Skysparkle have taught her that the world was created for friendship. She must learn to rely on the goodwill of her fellow ponies — and appreciate that she has always had to depend on others' generosity.
Nightlight is obsessed with being able to control her environment. She isn't simply hungry for power — it can feel especially painful to her when things get sour or unpredictable. This is another common trait of Unicorn Syndrome (cf. this article). Unfortunately, looking for friends is one of the messiest and unpredictable experiences.
Nightlight likes to think that a ruler can simply give orders and expect people to obey them. This thought is especially attractive to those with the anxiety associated with the autism spectrum. Nightlight must learn that there is no peace for rulers without the goodwill of their people. Rulers who don't know what they're doing can find things spiral out of control very quickly.
Nightlight has her special limitations. But with the right attitude, she can find the friends she needs for a fulfilling life. She will learn that social skills are not as natural as they're cracked up to be. Humans are not born being able to get along. Everyone must learn it.

Visual Description:
Nightlight is a lightish purplish pink unicorn with bright purplish pink hooves. She has darkish pinkish magenta hair with a dark stripe and a golden yellow stripe.
Nightlight's hair is straight, but it is fairly messy. It extends near the tops of her forelegs. She wears dark violet glasses with half-circle frames. She has darkish purplish violet eyes.
The mark on Nightlight's flank is the following:
A tall eight-point star that stands for the North Star; beside it are seven five-point stars that make the Big Dipper. The tall eight-point star is a bright reddish hot pink. The eight-point star is made of two perpendicular crosses — a tall one and a square one. To the upper right half is a triangle of light golden yellow hearts. The seven stars of the Big Dipper are white.

As I noted before, you are getting better-and-better in developing your characters. Between Night light, white Knight, and Princess Sky sparkle, you already have enough to easily write a 'pilot' for the series.
All great shows start with a foundation of characters along with a macro-level introduction to the world.
Something I did, which you may find helpful, is continuing to write the story out through these character descriptions. I did this in a book I wrote entitled, "Further Realms: Creative Campaign". The story was more about the characters than connecting points for major events. It really helped me get better in pacing my work. :)
You probably have noticed something similar as we work with Hapo. You start with cappy, Scuttle, and Lucky. Each representing a different personality that has its ups-and-downs with the others. You then get a more in-depth look through Ducky and Truent as the children explore their world, make new friends, and find fun in both learning and friendship.

Maybe I should start with a storybook that that simply illustrates the relationship between Nightlight and White Night. It may not have much of a story other than taking care of a little sister on the autism spectrum. Thank you for the suggestion! It seems I need a book like this to set the proper keynote.
Maybe my first product will be an activity set for those on the high-functioning side of the autism spectrum. It may include a small toy set, a few storybooks, and a few activity books.
It won’t be simply for those on the autism spectrum; it will be for anyone who struggles to make friends or succeed in school. It will include common academic interests among those with AS, and it will include games to help make scientific and emotional sense of friendship. Every subject covered seeks to tell it from a new angle that makes it fundamentally more compelling than standard instruction.
I may use different versions of such an activity set to introduce a variety of character sets on my mind. During product testing, I might end up featuring a much different set of characters than my original, though still leaving my original as an option.

I like the direction you are considering. What I really like is how you are finding ways to 'simplify' all you are trying to accomplish into more manageable projects.
You have lots-and-lots of great ideas. However putting them all in one project would give you a very frustrating 'scope creep' that would have you endlessly trying to keep up with the unending growth. All your ideas are very relevant. It is just better to make them into individual pieces so you can get a sense of accomplishment without wondering if you'll ever be able to truly finish a single work.
This is what I strived for with The Haposaurs. Each story is independent but, at the same time, works to build upon the previous as characters make new friends, learn life lessons, and Ducky finds a soul mate with Lucky getting a mom. (Entertaining for kids and interesting for a reading parent, or older reader, as the core plot is just 'tucked' in without ruining the moral of the episode for the target audience.)
