GNG - Kai Bros
Akatora and Kurotora and Chutora, "Red Tiger" and "Black Tiger" and "Brown Tiger", Kai Kens
kai kens are actually kinda small for medium sized dogs so i declare the kai trio are all manlets and/or short kings depending on their current behavior
The Kai Bros are one of those things where you become instantly aware that you're watching/reading something and not following a biographical nonfiction story about dogs who talk and spin. But, like, in a good way. Truth be told, I think any remake of GNG in the modern age would be a mistake given how many of its tropes are both products of its time and its genre. The Kai Brothers, triplets who each represent one of the three colors in their breed and have a weirdly rationed out array of injuries, are explicitly a product of fiction, and I like them that way. You couldn't be luckier to run into such a perfectly planned out bunch of bros.
I decided to play with the angle that they're nearly identical triplets. Their bodies and faces look basically the same, but their coloration and scars are what tell them apart. Likewise, their personalities are much the same, too, with the major exception being the slightly more intelligent "eldest" brother Aka. I like the idea of them being more primitive in behavior then the other dogs as well as not truly having names (as the manga suggests) and just going with the flow when the other soldiers start calling them Color Tiger. I don't think I've ever drawn a Kai Ken before these guys, and idk how many people DO draw them without connecting them to Ginga in some way.
