This is Vincent, or Vince for short. He's a cockroach under all that armor. This picture shows him taking part in his favorite roleplay setting in dataspace, a node known as the Planetoid.
Basically a junkyard floating in space, the Planetoid is a massive ball of wreckage and scrap a thousand miles across, orbiting a dim but harsh green star. It is cold, and has low gravity and a thin, toxic atmosphere made mostly of industrial pollutants. Derelict spaceships and large meteors impact the twisted metal ground almost every day, bringing with them new materials and substances that are sought by the inhabitants.
Giant living-scrap beasts known as "metal gods" stalk the surface, hunting and fighting each other, digging in the scrapscape, and eating the hydrocarbons and heavy radioactives and water ice brought down by the meteors. The largest and most powerful of the metal gods is Steamer, the avatar of the AI that originally designed and built the Planetoid.
Vince and other players take part as survivors, cultists, scavengers, scrappers, cave farmers, and other assorted roles in large underground bases, with their own power systems and water and air recycling. Some of these systems are built from scraps, some are taken whole from crashed ships and destroyed mechs and incorporated into the warren-like maze of tunnels and chambers.
Vince himself is a "god hunter", a group of fearless warriors that build their own armored space suits out of the scraps. They venture to the surface in teams to assault the metal gods, as they are the most densely-concentrated sources of valuable machinery and materials on the Planetoid. Each hunt is carefully planned and coordinated; even the smallest metal god is still an insanely dangerous steel predator dozens of feet tall.
God hunter armors are all unique, but share similar characteristics. They are most commonly designed to be crush-proof, to resist the metal gods' stomps and bites. Vince's armor features a rounded shell similar to a stone crab in design; if a god is about to stomp on him, Vince will drop to the ground with his limbs tucked in to let the shell take the impact.
It also features a grappling hook launcher and a spotlight, plus air tanks and batteries and a radio mounted under the shell. As weapons, Vince carries a spear, a large vibro-blade, and a plasma cutter, plus some explosives. After all, the goal of the god hunters is to disable and harvest the metal gods they hunt, not destroy them.

A character concept fleshed out with some assistance from
ChrisGryph. The character started as a joke pic drawn by
Spotty the Gryphon seven years ago, and with his permission I adopted the charcter as my own. From there came the decision to put him in the Planetoid setting, and from
goat-kid's amazing talents came this pic. <3
