This is Tiamet daughter of the deceased demon lord Marduk, whose will killed through the machinations of the Demon Lord Balor Mag Mell, she and the surviving loyal demons fled. She is trying to exact revenge not only on the Demon Lord, but the humans who weilded the weapon that killed her father. Thus Tiamet came upon the idea of combining human weapons and demon weapons to create an unstoppable force that could conquer two realms. Demons and other supernatural creatures can only killed with certain weapons. Thus Tiamet wants to combine the destructive power of say AK-47 that fired magical bullets that could both kill mortals and demons. She wanted to combine humans who be enslaved easily with demons to create an invincible army.

The demon/human hybrids would be not be killed by human weapons, like shooting Dracula with regular bullets. You are going to ruin Dracula's clothes, but that won't stop him. She found mortal partners in the criminal organization known as the Tarantula Corporation. The Tarantula Corp was a subversive group that is not as powerful as Nightshade or DEMONS, they saw the potential of this scheme. The Tarantula Corp, began to gather people for Tiamet's experiments from the deserted town of Sunnydale in the Blackwater Swamp. From her base in the town of Midnight. The experiments was progressing well until Tiamet's loyal demon Ishtar reformed and converted to good. Ishtar freed the demon hybrids and now leads the Downsiders against both people who would exploit them and Tiamet and the humans of the Tarantula Corp.

DOWNSIDERS are demon/human hybrids created by the Demon Lady Tiamet and the mortal subversive organization the Tarantula Corp. to conquer both the mortal world and the demon realms. The Tarantula Corp. kidnapped people from the abandoned town of Sunnydale and underbelly of Midnight City. Ishtar , a demon who was Tiamet's loyal aide, reformed and rebelled against Tiamet. Ishtar freed the demon/human hybrids and they escaped from there. They could not go back to the mortal authorities or the demon realms. Ishtar settled in underground caverns of Midnight City. They battle to survive and try to find a way back to humans.
