Well, this is what I came up with so far. Not perfect but it works well enough. I planned to paint the shields brown but the acrylic paint was sticking very poorly despite priming the white plastic. So I when with the flat black spray paint, which has no problem with coverage. I might get brown spray paint in the future though.
I like the strap system I came up with. I used nylon dog collars that I got at the dollar store. Both the small and large collars have plastic buckles. I simply cut the collars in half with the buckles in the back. The large on was long enough to all the way around with enough leftover to be held in place with the clip I printed. The small one was too short so I extended with that adapter I made to increase from the 3/4" wide strap to the 1" double sided hook-n-look fasteners. I used that 1" material to go over the bridge of my nose.
Right now, the goggles have that industrial influence, which I think goes perfect with my mad scientist/engineer look that I have with my latest badge ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/33849423/ ) that I commissioned at ACFI 2019. I was hoping to debut both at the upcoming TFF, but I have some bad news there.
I looks like I am not able to make it this year. A big bummer as I wanted to go ever since last year. A series of events combined to squash it. The timing was bad to begin with. I knew late February was going to be an issue from way back when they announce the date at the end of last year's con. It was going to be tight but anyway but it just fell apart in the end. So unless some miracle happens out of the blue, I'll be skulking at home. *..* Not fun
My only hope is at ACFI coming up in late October. It is my local con so I the chances is very high I'll be there no matter what.. It'll have to be something big to make me missing it and I'll be so pissed. I'll be there even if I have to bite and claw my way there... well, more than usual anyway.
By the way, I am in the process of reshaping my jawline. I made it a bit too wide and have narrowed it down considerably. I think it looks much better even though I am not done. I also ripped out the old, crappy foam teeth so I can attach those 3D printed ones I made though I am not a big hurry to put them in due to the aforementioned not going to TFF. I also wanted to make a tail for it too.
As for the goggles, I can easily change it to look more steampunkish but switching out to brass rings. I have plenty of them so I am planning to give my paw at plating them. If that didn't work out, I could try painting them with brass color paint though it probably wouldn't benice and shiny, a more dull brassy finish. I definitely want to paint it brown if I do that. Maybe even use thin leather stretched over the shields. But that is for a future project.
Speaking a future project, I made sure to have holes just under the perimeter of the plastic lens so that I could mount LEDs. The edge of the lens is exposed so I hope the light will shine through. I have a few ideas on that. But I am getting ahead of myself.
So, what do you guys think? Am I on the right track? Does anyone want the models to print there own versions?
