With how cold it's gotten, slimes have a tough time trying to stay warm. Though they'll rarely ask to warm up by the fire and instead insist on letting themselves in by any means possible, in the middle of the night, and finding a nice, warm belly to inhabit instead. I awake to find just one such slime had decided to visit me... seems like I'm going to be the "generous host" for a bit.

Pretty much! Slimes rarely push their way in completely but when they do, they take root for quite some time. Leaving their unfortunate generous host rather bloated and growing all the while until the little part that is "them" leave! Of course, even after they're gone it still leaves a lotta weight on whoever they decided to hitch a ride on.
You're right on the nose actually with how I say they work here! I like to say the slimes here do just that so they can stay slim enough to maneuver around without having all that goop slowing them down. They "dump" their excess slime in pretty much whatever they can find and the part that is actually the "slime" just moves on. While if a slime takes up residence in a host it'll continue to grow but always pass any excess to it's host thus making them end up like the doughy deer up there until they either leave or are removed. Though this is a bit different from how copy slimes work and that's a whole 'nother thing with them.
