I think Friendships can be intimate. Such was the story behind what happened with Fish (Bernard Masters) and Sugar (Kale Matthews), which is indeed a strange one.
Fish was Bibleman, a hero who dolled out Bible verses like they meant something whenever he rushed in recklessly to save the day.
Sugar was "Banderstatch" a notorious.... ly nondescript criminal kingpin in Windy City whose various crimes were immediately pinned on Bibleman because the general public is full of idiots. And yet, many became weirdly invested in this battle of egos. As was another crowd, who were quickly clamoring for Bibleman to get the axe and for Banderstatch to get seriously humiliated. Upset and horrified, Bernard comes to his rescue, not wanting to lose the first real friend he had unwittingly made in his entire life, and this in turn leads to his own life being saved. One major plot twist later (Actually... Several.), and suddenly the two of them really do turn into a strange pair of friends, bordering on Blood-brother territory, who become close enough that they wouldn't hesitate for even one second to sacrifice themselves for each other in the face of inescapable danger.
As things become increasingly weird in Windy City, the two of them take no notice and just try to live like a regular pair of guys, being dudes, as Bernard gets married eventually, and Kale lives a mostly abstinent lifestyle and tries occasional dating.
Seen here, 5 years after an event that rocked the world called, "The Abandonment", both Bear-dog and Badger are in Orange County, Hawaii and just being nutcases on the way to a lazy day of fishing. Kale originally came from Hawaii and as such knows plenty of good fishing spots.

I have yet to continue any work on the "Mr. Nichols" Project because it is too darn cold for me to be invested, and my fingers feel like icicles. It gets frustrating. But hopefully it won't be as bad as last year when the "Polar Vortex" hit.
Note: I had to update the source file because Bernard missed a hand.
