Hive Fleet Onyxia - Tyrant
The line art for this was originally just a part of a Broken Plot Device strip for Feb. 1st, 2010 (http://www.brokenplotdevice.com/2010/02/01/the-art-of-comedy-part-2-biological-warfare/) but I liked how the tyranid came out enough that I decided to finish it on it's own. It's drawn referencing my actual Tyrant model, and colored in the scheme of my army. And yes, it is named after Onyxia from WoW. I'm double nerdin' it, yo.

I just thought up this bit between those two Tyranids in the background (lower right corner):
2nd Tyranid (on left): "Oi, chief! How come the boss's gun is bigger'n ours?"
1st Tyranid (on right): "Cuz he's the boss, that's what! Now shut yer snapper and keep charging recklessly towards the enemy!"
2nd Tyranid: "Recklessly it is, chief!"
I don't know why, it just came to me.

I don't know why, it just came to me.
Well...at least they're not going fert anymore....Anyhoo! Three chapters of the Emperor's Finest along with their fleet compliments, Some 80 to 100 regiments of his Majesty's Imperial Guard, and supporting Fleet actions and elements from Battlefleet Tempestus or Ultima and I think I can pretty well mop this lot up.
Hive guard are the only real "must have" unit. A lot of tournament lists fill their entire elite slot with them, but even just having a full unit of 3 is a good idea. Also, I personally like the Doom of Malantai inside a drop spore, but it's best against armies with large model count units that won't necessarily be able to kill it as soon as it drops. (my boyfriend plays Tau, and he was an absolute monster). Having numbers also helps, and putting a Tervigon in your HQ slot is a huge help to that since it can birth more gaunts.
That's my best advice, I haven't played a ton of games but that's what I've settled on so far.

not by the rules, no. Technically, he has a Lashwhip & Bonesword as weapon slot 1, and a Venom Canon as weapon slot 2. I just chose to model him differently, turning the gun into a 1-h and making the "sword" into wolverine claws; that just left me with a spare arm hole, which I put the scything talon into.
I have way more fun with the modeling than I do the playing. ;^_^
