A preflight check is extremely important for any aircraft, especially when the aircraft in question is your own body. Checking for any small nicks and holes in your wing membrane is vital. While small wounds are easy enough to fix and heal on the ground, they can become a massive tear from the stresses of flight.
Running his hand over his striped wings, Hazard both looks and feels for any imperfections. He can't reach every part of his wing with his hands, so the visual checks of those areas are even more important.
