Now for a book about Discworld's Reaper. In book 4, Mort, Death takes an apprentice: the titular Mort. Also with Death in his dominion are his adopted daughter, Ysabell and man servant Albert. While filling in for Death, Mort goes against protocols and spares Princess Keli and it causes to timelines to chafe against each other ala theRick and Morty episode A Rickle in Time. Another plot thread is Death suffering from ennui and become a short order cook.
