Her first chemistry set was a little *different* to say the least. Mason jars, small sacks of powders, and other oddities were her first learning tools to her eventual mastery over arts beyond the bounds of this world. The instructions weren't neat and printed, usually written in odd tongues on old scrolls, penned in questionable ink alternatives, stashed away in forgotten places. Despite all the cryptic details of this birthright to magic and its components of mysticism, her teachers and fellow apprentices weren't at all evil or unkind. They practiced these arts because they were descended of it, usually practicing with the supervision of watchful guardians of the natural order of the world. There were those who turned to nefarious uses of these powers and talents, but she was practiced on the uses to stop such magics from hurting any aspect of the unaware world. Her parents were actually of the two groups of the knowledgable on sorcery, her father a high-ranking protector and her mother a master magician. They met while stopping a warlock a little too hungry for more power, and his being led astray by the occasional demons who seek powerful pawns to gain a foothold in the world. Jaymi often daydreamed about being a botanist or a chemist who could publish works for the whole world to see. Sometimes she winked or blew a kiss at an occasional protector-in-training who grew up to the same secretive doctrine, maybe to see if they'd protect the world together or run away for a simpler life.
