Miranda had put off her main duties for a bit, testing out other device capabilities of her holo-space. She had also asked the R&D about some upgrades to the device, lovingly dubbed 'Hindsight' since it was primarily geared to detailed reconstruction of specific past events. "Okay, so, what if we could extrapolate data for any situation based on the responses of top minds we have on record?" She'd asked the division head, getting a shrug in response. She was a fellow classmate from the same tech institute, only having a few courses together.
"You're gonna play what-if with your family and friends, huh?" She asked, skipping any questioning and going right for the meat of the matter. Miranda was left speechless, certain that she wasn't THAT obvious about her side work that wasn't exactly promoted. "Wow, that was, direct to say the least. But, yeah I wanted to see the responses of several individuals from the beginning to get a glimpse as to why they were candidates for immortalization." Miranda explained, using hand gestures that her ancestor used to play her request better.
Liv was her name, a speckled mare from old England, but as it was only the territory by name it had no distinct accent. She directed Miranda to more Hindsight prototypes that were under development, retrieving an attachment roughly a quarter of the size of the device. "Here, processor expansion and memory storage. It's like having a copy of whoever you need to study in your space. Careful with the memory settings though, and DO NOT turn the sync on, that's for the development of your AI that's been part of Hindsight since day one. Yeah, you might've noticed the system has been slowly growing more casual, less capitalized words and such. Well, good luck Miranda." She explained, trotting back to the main floor, leaving Miranda to her devices.
Okay, moment of clarity, since she was already deep in the truth, just without the full context she wanted. "System, hmm, you need a new name, so, uh, how about...Echo! Yeah, that'll do! So, Echo, how does it feel to become a mind of your own, buddy?" Miranda asked, having set up the expansion to her device, eager to test new possibilities. She had already planned to store a copy of Mir and Delta's old selves as direct access entities to clear up the fog between events. This was beyond exhilarating, Miranda not even attempting to contain her smile.
[This new space is...spacious, User Miranda. I am thankful for your upgrading of the Hindsight and myself. :) ]
Miranda smiled at Echo's response, understanding that it's parameters were now expanded and less restrictive on free thought. It was certainly warming up to its new independence to explore and question, though it seemed like it was comfortable with short responses still. She just hoped Echo wasn't going to be the second attempt at an AI revolt against their organic creators. At least now if it gained sentience it could ask to inhabit a robotic frame and help develop a synthetic lifeform colony somewhere. Or that may just backfire and lead to the destruction of Earth. Hmm, maybe she'd just ask it to not do that, if it didn't mind.
Now, though, she'd been deliberating too long, and it was time to work. She fastened her peripherals and fiddled with new controls. "Okay, magic mirror, show me that which is held dearer..." she mumbled, requesting Synchronization and a background download of her two ancestors. Feeling the new sensation of motion as the world shifted around her, a new feature that she didn't feel right with, or with her sense of balance and stomach. But there she was, a millennium past, and in the living arrangements of her ancient grandparents.

"So, we getting noodles for dinner or we going for burgers? Haven't had a burger in a week, and I could really go for a double with some curly fries." Delta asked, a focused expression on his face as he worked on some mechanical device at a table in the room's corner. Past Miranda, Mir, as Future (present?) Miranda had taken to calling to make things simple for herself, was sitting on a chair with a clipboard in hand. She was wearing an older outfit that Miranda recognized from their trip out to the coast on Del's motorcycle. Miranda wondered if they still had it, as time had passed since then and upgrades were inevitable.
"Hmm, maybe we get burritos instead? There are a lot of choices, but hey, maybe we flip a coin for it. Oh, do you know any solutions to this?" Mir replied, tapping her head with a pencil, looking up to Del as he approached to look at her clipboard. He stared at it for several long moments, obviously perplexed by the page contents, scratching his ears as he tapped a foot. "So, you're building a, what is this, a cage for heads? No no, wait, this says 'Neural Transmitter Sync' in the corner. So, a mind control device?" Delta asked, tapping the page with his pinky and putting his hands in his pockets. Mir's expression was that of confusion then amusement, as Delta didn't notice the highlighter circle on a list of mechanical components.
"Mind control...not a bad idea actually, except it'll only work on the weak-minded, actors, and goofy boyfriends." Mir joked, seeing Del's eyebrows raise. "Hey, I'll have you know I'm top of my class at clowning around. Okay, so mind control is off the list. So, let's shoot through the rest. Power Giver, Schizophrenia Curer, Memory Cloner, or Robot Controller. Any of those?" Delta replied, crossing his arms and rocking forward and back on his feet. "Hmm, no super powers, sorry, umm still working on understanding that, essentially yes, and another novel concept honestly." Miranda responded, looking up while her hands were gesturing little movements only she understood.
She stood up, uncrossing Delta's arms and snatching up his keys, tossing the clipboard on her seat. "So, how about we get away from science and, well, what you're working on, and get something to eat? I'll buy the dessert, but we gotta get three shakes, I could use the sugar rush for the revisions of my 'brain scanner' thing." Mir said, standing close to Del as he smirked. She gave him a puppy-dog look that made him break out smiling, patting her shoulder. "So, burgers then? I'll get extra fries, just in case you steal mine." He replied, both walking to the door.

Echo pinged, Miranda having been walking about as the memory played, recording any new data from personal notes that Mir had about. So, this would seem to be the first real hint towards the Golden Age of innovators and thinkers. Miranda read a notification from a wrist-display, alerting her that only one personality was ready to apply to the Hindsight device, the other being locked. "Well, I think we're about done, Echo. End playback, please. All this talk of food is making me hungry myself." Miranda said, excited to see who she could talk to, even if it were only one of her ancestors.
