The door to the candle lit basement room creaked open and made the ears of the two feline occupants twitch. Celeste sighed as she regarded her fellow witches Alice and Marilyn cleaning up the room. She closed the door behind her and began to pick up the talismans she’d used earlier. The magic on them had been spent, but the paper was still good to be used again. The silent air was broken by a sigh from the white pantheress. “Alright. Come on Celeste. Out with it.”
“What are you talking about Marilyn?” asked the bat girl as she continued her task.
“Come on. With the stick you have buried so far up your ass. You must be beside yourself waiting to say ‘I told you so’.” chimed in Alice next.
“Actually I’m just relieved things didn’t go any farther south than they did tonight.” replied Celestetruthfully. She knew that the others would never admit that they were wrong; that they’d made a mistake in summoning a demon. That even with their combined magic they weren’t able to hold her, and she only had a fraction of her true power. This is how they’ve been as long as she knew them; even back at the academy. They were always biting off more than they can chew.
“I thought it was thrilling. I’ve never seen a demon as powerful as her before in person.” mused the ocelot.
“None of us had. It was an experience sure to help us in the future. Although we failed to summon our actual target, we should be grateful to Sabrina for the experience. We’d have never been allowed to do that back at the academy.” said Marilyn.
“You guys never change. But speaking of Sabrina where is she?” asked Celeste curiously.
“After the demoness left to find our target she conjured a spectral pigeon to follow her. The spell came undone a little bit ago. She grabbed a broom and took off after that.” explained Alice.
“She what? Where? Did she say where she was going?” asked Celeste quickly.
“Just that she was going to get some air.” recalled Marilyn.
“That idiot!” said Celeste alarmed.
“What are you so panicked about? She’ll be fine. It’s nighttime, so the chances of her being spotted are slim.” said Alice confused.
“I’m not worried about her being spotted. I’m worried she went after the demons.” said Celeste.
“If that’s what you think then you don’t know Sabrina very well. She may be headstrong, but she won’t do something she KNOWS will lead to her demise.” said Marilyn in response.
“I hope you’re right. But I’m going to find her just the same.” announced the bat girl worried as she went for the door. She threw it open and her robes flowed behind her as she broke into a sprint. Up the stairs and out the backdoor she beat her wings heavily and propelled herself strongly into the brisk night air.

The soft breeze flowed around the black feline sitting atop a broom in the sky overlooking the city. The light of the full moon shone around her. The sound of soft sniffles were lost to the breeze as two teardrops fell away from her purple eyes. “I can’t believe this happened. I even brought Alice and Marilyn for help and still I failed.” she thought. She looked down at the warehouse where the two demons had fought. The fire department was close to done putting the fire out now. “That could easily have been the magic shop had Celeste not been around to suppress her fire power.” she continued. The sound of beating wings approaching behind and below her prompted her to remove her glasses and wipe her tears away quickly as she composed herself. “What do you want Celeste?” she asked aloud.
“Sabrina. I just…I came to…” started the out of breath bat.
“Thought I would go attack them head on?” asked Sabrina without turning to look at her.
“No! I mean well yes, but I…”
“Don’t worry. I’m not that eager to throw away my life. This again was my loss. And even with help I failed, and only managed to strengthen my enemy’s forces. I’m…I’m sorry.” said Sabrina softly.
“What?” asked Celeste confused.
“I said I’m sorry. My drive to get revenge almost lost us the shop tonight, let alone could have gotten the four of us killed. I wanted to say I’m sorry for that. And thank you for being there to help. And for getting her to leave without torching the place first.” said Sabrina.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you apologize before. Are you okay? Did she put a death curse on you or something?” asked Celeste quickly.
“I’m fine. Look I know I don’t show it enough; especially with Marilyn and Alice around, but I am truly grateful to have you as a friend. And I thank you for sticking by me and my whims.” said Sabrina truthfully.
“It’s not a problem. You’re my friend Sabrina. And though you are talented, we both know that your tendencies will eventually get you killed if I don’t keep you grounded somewhat.” said Celeste in return.
“I know. Can I keep relying on you to be that stick in the mud for me.” replied the black feline.
“Always.” said Celeste warmly.
“Thanks Celeste.” said Sabrina.
“Does this mean that you’re giving up on this notion of revenge?” asked the bat hopefully.
“Of course not. This means I have to try harder. I was not fully prepared this time. I will be next time.” replied the cat as a flash ran across her glasses.
“I had a feeling.” said Celeste hanging her head exasperated.
“Just you wait! I’ll subjugate you yet!” called Sabrina into the air as she and Celeste turned to head back to the shop.
Sabrina acknowledges that this little exchange is her loss. But don't think for a second that she's giving up.

At this rate, Sabrina is going to use up most of her nine lives before she realises she's in over her head. Still, I am worried she's going to get someone hurt in the long run. Maybe Sly is going to 'tame' her before that happens?
Well written, man. Well written.
P.S. We really need a 'thumbs up' icon, because there would be then be one at the end of that last sentence!
