I finally got done with the butt stock and attached it to the modified toy gun. I was going to paint it the same flat black as the rest of the gun but I decided to break it up with a different color. A dark brown would be nice but I went with the same green paint as the fake grenades I made. It'll turn a little darker as it cures in a few days. I plan on using the green on a few other accessories if I can get to them.
On how I made the butt stock, I first looked up some examples of a famous machine gun in the past and loosely based my design on that. Can anyone guess what model I used? No? Anyhoot, I took a piece of 2x6 piece of lumber and start to cut out the rough shape. All I have at the moment was a short metal cutting blade on my jigsaw so it was slow going and was about a 1/4" short of cutting all the way through. So I had to use various hand saws to finish the cuts.
The next steps involves shaping the rounded contours on the belt sander. To speed it up a little, I used a router to round off the edges. It didn't do much but saved some time in the sanding. But the rest of the sanding took forever, I sanded around like 30% of the wood to get it close to presentable.
Once I was happy with the overall shape, I gave it a couple coats of black paint before hitting it with that green color. Might change it later though.
Mounting it to the end of the gun was a challenged. I went through several ideas before settling on a thin strip of aluminum from an old window blind. Almost thin enough to cut with scissors but I used heavy shears to prevent wearing the blades. I bent it into the U shape and drilled holes to mount it to the gun rear and then to the stock. I ended up making a slightly thicker piece of aluminum to stiffen the bracket as it was originally too flimsy. It worked out well and the stock doesn't move unless one puts undue stress on it. Good enough for my purposes.
I could consider it done at this point but I do want to add more stuff if time permits. Things like a front grip, sights, and a scope of some sort. I might cut down that charging level as it is a bit tall, especially with the sights and scope.
