novakid are my favorite race from starbound, something about the weirdness of their (non)biology combined with the cowboy aesthetic is just cool to me.
Ethyl is a smuggler/mercenary/outlaw turned explorer, traversing the galaxy with her crew of similarly-derelicted comrades and doing lots of crime and stealing along the way. Novakid are typically named after flammable gases, so her name comes from ethylbenzene which is a volatile chemical used in manufacturing.
the stuff on her wrists/hands and ankles/feet (not pictured) is a layer of oxide that forms from the plasma her body is made of, and is more supple and skin-like than the magnetic barrier that holds the rest of her together. and also it makes it easy to hold her hand
