Sort of a follow-up to these two past projects based upon
Lig's Star Trek STO-era ship design.

I'd mused in the flash project about seeing what the Gladius-class might look like in some variant colors; but never got around to doing it... until now.
The story behind each:
- Starfleet - The default hull coloration, which I made darker than the "normal" Starfleet hull coloration to highlight the ship's role as a stealth-first ship. Also gave it green nacelle grills to both A) indicate the co-development element with the Romulan Republic and B) because some other Post-TNG designs I like had that element in some renders (the Excalibur-class battleship is occasionally depicted with them) Was going to try and specifically add the Starfleet pennants but had no side-elevation and they'd be too small to really see in this picture anyway.
- Romulan Republic Legion - The most obvious addition clearly being the Aquila (the bird emblem on the ventral hull), but I also gave the hull a slightly different tint and gave the heat radiator panels on the wings a gold rather than silver tint. Specifically; the Romulan Republic hull coloration is precisely as "green" as the Federation one is "blue", which I thought fit nicely.
- MACO - Firstly; yes, theoretically it's "military assault command operations" and not "marine", but I think the latter fits slightly better given by the time of STO: the MACOS would almost always be deployed on or via starships so it fits better... or maybe that's just my love of the Aliens franchise talking. ANyway: added a dark blue segment and the idea of having WWII-style "shark jaws" painted on the ship came from this design for the Tiburon-class:

- Terran Empire - Yeah; I'm a bit odd in that I really quite liked the first look that Star Trek Online gave the Terran Empire. For those that aren't aware of the story behind the change, or indeed the Terran Empire at all: the Terran Empire is the "mirror universe" version of Starfleet: instead of an inclusive multi-species federation, evil-universe humanity conquered its way across the stars. The usual "look" given is that Terran ships are identical to Starfleet ones but with gold highlights... Star Trek Online however when it launched gave them a purple and bronze look, which some fans balked at but I quite liked... given that this is technically an entirely different Terran Empire: given that between Star Trek TOS and DS9, the empire had fallen and in STO's timeline had rebounded with very different tactics: instead of one large battleship with half a dozen senior officers all trying to kill one another for the top job, they'd instead build half a dozen smaller ships, all of which competed to be the most effective; thus turning the Terran pension for competition outward rather than inward. WIth that in mind, and their prodigious use of cloaking devices: the darker hull coloration and more "ghostly" look I thought fit very well; a wilier, more desperate and vicious Terran Empire.
As for the background: I used a photo of a nebula, then overlaid a frame inspired by the Stellar Cartography UI as seen in Star Trek: Generations.

I really like the bronze plating colors of the Terran Empire, to do it better on my ships I'm using the Bozemans titan shield. While I agree Macos are the marines of ST (from what little we see from them) I don't think they would go as far as having painted shark faces.
Yeah: I quite like the Bronze/purple combo for the Terran Empire: gives them a flavor of their own besides "normal federation with some gold marker on the hull".
And yeah: I honestly wish we'd see more of the MACOs, since well: A) we always hear that the Federation has ground forces but most of the time all we see in Starfleet Security, which is famous for sucking in the name of plot convenience, and B) I've seen some quite cool designs for what their uniforms and kit across the eras of TOS and TNG might have been had they appeared.
As for the shark jaws: maybe? I think I could have done them better but for the really limited space here... I needed to do something besides just the dark blue highlights I thought and that seemed a neat element to include. But maybe it is a bit much.

Maybe another reason I like the shark-jaws idea (besides the obvious... no I don't just want to see more MACOs because they use sharks in their iconography... it helps though) is my fondness for fighter-jet "nose art" extended to sci-fi: like hwo the Jaegers in Pacific Rim have their kills displayed on their chassies and so forth. I feel it helps make worlds feel a bit less sterile and more lived in.
True; though I can't imagine nay dedicated MACO ships would be among the first sent out to new first-contact missions.
I probably would had I played STO: I honestly should, I just haven't up until now. I read about it a lot: quite like it as it's where I go to hide from the horrid mess that is JJ and STD-trek. I've just had a very spotty history with MMO games; think I've tried WoW like 4 times and just can never get myself into them.

STO isn't like WOW, as in every mission can be done all by yourself and the only contacts you can have with other players is setting up for random task force operations... during which you do your thing, they do theirs, and you keep going. Someone who has an irregular playtime, no desires to invest much (it's all free to play and no money in the world will make you do better than someone else in it, just have cooler looking stuff, not more efficient) and mostly want to play by myself, i've been playing since the release year. Loots for missions is good enough to do everything, and with time, you can get the best gear ever... You would see again most of the casts of most of the TV shows.
I've got the MACO armor from the Omega Reputation thing myself. I don't tend to do enough with lockboxes to get the Lobi Crystals to purchase the Enterprise MACO outfit. That said I did get the Enterprise uniform from the Z-Store. Been playing for over two years now and I've sunk a fair deal into it and really do enjoy it. *glances at his 10 various characters* Heheh. ^^ Console Player myself. Xbox One.
I'm on PC, the Maco entreprise uniform is sold on my side for 1,7 millions dilithium, so no lobi. I got all the lobi and lockbox stuff I want through collecting EC : people put them on the exchange, I bought the infinity lockbox Verne-class t6 ship yesterday for 450 millions EC. Took me 6 months of slowly (as I said, I don't play much) stockpiling. While I know console stuff is different ( we will never meet, so I can't give you stuff), I think the exchange can get you whatever you want.
Hmmm. I don't think it's in the Dilithium store on console but I might be wrong and wow that's a LOT of Energy Credits. More than I've ever had at one point in time. Guess I'm not quite as dedicated a player with that. hehe. But yeah there is a lot of stuff on the Exchange for lots of EC. Eh maybe I should get around and start farming. XD also wish the top tier Phoenix prize pack tokens dropped with some regularity. Unfortunately not. *shrugs*
Sweet! I love the variants and can definitely see these flying out there. The darker coloration for them makes a lot sense given their stealthy nature and I like the inclusion of the Aquila on the Romulan Republic one. While they may not care for the Empire they're still proud to call themselves Romulan. ^^ This reminds me I really do need to get around and do that crew for one that I've been kicking around.
Hehe glad you approve; and yeah, that was sor tof my thinking for including it: they might have reformed the government; but they are still Romulan and they still use "War birds" as their mainstay style of starship so figured keepign the Aquila markings made sense... though maybe I should have changed the color to signify the change; used the orange one that's usually used on the TOS-era designs.
