"retarded" is a word that doesn't apply only to people who have lowered psycolocigical capacity, but it's used for anything that's suppressed. For example "flame retardent clothes" are clothes that resist and prevent a fire from lighting them.

The point was to say that it's very regressive to take a phrase that was meant for good, and twist it into a propoganda of racial empowerment. I understand where youre coming from. I do. But people say mean things all the time. And no one likes it when a person goes around and tells them not to say a particular word. This isn't a school playground. It is honestly a very childish thing to do.

There are times and places to say things. People say bad words around friends. And some times they get too loud and disturb public areas where people just want to be around. In thst case it's a fair point.

I was trying to reason with them that they shouldn't just tell people to censor a word, but they didn't want to listen to reason. Instead playing victim and contining to try to make things go their way.

That's not how that works.

Someone asked politely to not use a specific word with a fairly long history of being used as a slur.

They didn't say you couldn't use every word for double plus unsmart which is what you're being.

They were under the guise of "be nice" when they then didn't take their own advice on "be nice". Accusing me of wanting to be allowed to say it, and telling me to fuck off.

People use slurs for jokes. that's the whole point, And telling people to not use those words is just a form of censorship. Comedy is one of the few means of conveying things that shouldn't be censored, and people who do try to censor it are just following the PC police.

TBH there's extremism in both parties. This symbol if I recall was intended to say "respect me, don't take advantage of me, etc." It's always good to do research on a symbol and what it should actually mean, before we force it to mean the same thing as a regime that seeked to wipe out a group of people, or merely a phrase of hatred. TBH "don't tread on me" can apply to any group who feels like they're being pushed around and taken advantage of.

I know a similar symbol/flag (more based on a variation, IIRC from the Revolution) was featured in Metal Gear Solid 2 by the group Sons of Liberty. But that was made in 2001 years before it started to get used again.

I guess for most people, I guess it's the association that makes it hard to see things objectively.

I think the issue stems from trouble that's happening nowadays so for some people it's just better to group EVERYTHING into one thing because it's just easier and safer. So..basically stereotyping.
