Can we not let things that have meant the same thing for over 100 years all of a sudden mean something horrible because people who happen to be horrible say "DUUUURRRR THIS IS OURS NOW THIS MEANS THIS DURDURDURRRR." STOP! You stop it now!

It's not even a slur. A slur is a deragitory phrase or word built specifically to demean or use against a group of people.
"retarded" is a word that doesn't apply only to people who have lowered psycolocigical capacity, but it's used for anything that's suppressed. For example "flame retardent clothes" are clothes that resist and prevent a fire from lighting them.

An insult is still an insult no matter how you suger coat it.
It doesn't matter, because the only people it's going to upset are the people who get upset for no reason, but constantly try to make excuses like they do have a reason.
You also have no stakes in this, but you choose to insert yourself and redirect the message to a meaningless argument.
The point was to say that it's very regressive to take a phrase that was meant for good, and twist it into a propoganda of racial empowerment. Which, by the way, it is a form of retardation to regress the progress we've made as a species. Picking at each other for meaningless reasons when we should instead focus on actually helping people instead of tearing them down.
So either help progression, or be left beind.

It's pointless to say that I'm not upset. But I am dissapointed that you're instead going to redirect things again. This time pointing at me at a hypothetical "anger" at you. If you want to point fingers and correct someone for what they said, then expect someone to do the same to you. That's all.
As they say "Do onto others, as you wish others onto you" so I can only assume that if you're going to jump in and point fingers at someone for saying something, then you leave yourself open for the same.

Mean to who though? To you? Is it directed at you?
Or is it instead rather directed at the people who twist things into sexist or racist statements just so they can push propoganda against people under the guise of equal rights, only to further expand sexism and racism for their own gain.
At that point, I don't care if mean things are said about those people because those people don't deserve respect for the damage they cause to society. And you shouldn't care either
The only reason you would is if you agreed with those people. And I don't believe you do.

I understand where youre coming from. I do. But people say mean things all the time. And no one likes it when a person goes around and tells them not to say a particular word. This isn't a school playground. It is honestly a very childish thing to do.
There are times and places to say things. People say bad words around friends. And some times they get too loud and disturb public areas where people just want to be around. In thst case it's a fair point.
But this is an image specifically directed at making fun of people who take things to twist them into sexist and racist things. Yes, it's going to have a mean thing to say, but it's not directed at anyone. It's making a statement that it's harmful to make racist propoganda about things that weren't.
I understand what you're trying to do, but I ask that you not continue to persue correcting people on their use of slurs. Or else I fear people may target you for being a White Knight or a Social Justice Worrior. To that end, complaining to someone of their use of the word "retarded" is a very SJW thing to do. Even if you meant well with it.

I was trying to reason with them that they shouldn't just tell people to censor a word, but they didn't want to listen to reason. Instead playing victim and contining to try to make things go their way.
I would really appreciate actually taking it seriously instead of just making fun of it.

I was also being a bit of an asshole. I get that. But they also weren't asking politely.
They were under the guise of "be nice" when they then didn't take their own advice on "be nice". Accusing me of wanting to be allowed to say it, and telling me to fuck off.
People use slurs for jokes. that's the whole point, And telling people to not use those words is just a form of censorship. Comedy is one of the few means of conveying things that shouldn't be censored, and people who do try to censor it are just following the PC police.

I do disagree on that front, though at this point I've long realized that this entire page was set up as a trap to get people talking and arguing.
So I'm just going to leave it at that. The point of the joke was aimed toward the people who take things and twist them into hate propaganda. I'm sure we can all agree that no one minds those people getting insults thrown at them for what they do.
I respect your point of view, so I'm going to stop trying to argue.

TBH there's extremism in both parties. This symbol if I recall was intended to say "respect me, don't take advantage of me, etc." It's always good to do research on a symbol and what it should actually mean, before we force it to mean the same thing as a regime that seeked to wipe out a group of people, or merely a phrase of hatred. TBH "don't tread on me" can apply to any group who feels like they're being pushed around and taken advantage of.
I know a similar symbol/flag (more based on a variation, IIRC from the Revolution) was featured in Metal Gear Solid 2 by the group Sons of Liberty. But that was made in 2001 years before it started to get used again.
I guess for most people, I guess it's the association that makes it hard to see things objectively.

The swastika was a symbol of peace for thousands of years, yet one meaning came to dominate it.
The Gadsden flag could be argued to be a symbol of white supremacy from conception, too. The Colonies were all about establishing supremacy of the white settlers over the natives, and the main reason for the secession that's been banned from the history books was a rejection of Britain's gradual abolition of slavery.
All of that is secondary to the fact the Gadsden flag is flown by domestic terrorists and other far-right groups.
