2010 Tail Tutorial...
Since it's been ten years since I did my first tail tutorial and both my drawing skills and software have improved a bit since then, I decided to whomp up a revised version.

Good diagram.
One of the things that confuses furry artists into placing the tail too low, is that us humans have a tail: the 'tailbone'. Our tailbones don't curl out from the back. Our tailbones don't go straight. (We would have to redesign chairs, if they did!) The human tailbones curve in & tuck under, towards the front. It's too easy for a body-aware human to 'feel' that a tail should go that way, rather than straight out.
Straight out is more sensible anatomy design for a long-tailed anthropomorph. And with some flexibility built-in, the anthropomorph's tail could have the options to go somewhat out, tuck somewhat in, and go the traditional wag-around.
I'd tweak the final picture's legend: The base of the spine position isn't anything to do with anthropomorphs being primate based - merely that the tail is what happens to the spine in most species after the pelvis, so it should just be a smooth flow from the one into the other.
