I robbed my bees last weekend, and got about 48 pounds of honey. Which I put in a pile of jars yesterday.
My kitchen is stickier than you can possibly imagine.

Its definately a recreational thing for me as well. They are more interesting than plants, but sufficiently self-sufficient that I don't have to worry about work sending me someehwere.
The wax always smells nice... but then sometimes in the spring they get into something weird and it smells like old socks.

Thanks! Hopfully I didn't take too much. They need 50 to 75 pounds of honey to make it through the winter. Two of my three hives are difficult to lift (grab one side, and tilt it, to get an idea of how heavy it is), but one is a runt (I didn't rob that one).
Unprocessed is a two-edged sword... But yes, local honey always tastes better. Of the three hives I have right now, one is a year and a half old, and two are new this year. 2017 to 2018 winter, all three of my hives died. I've been doing it for maybe 5 years. A friend of mine had some hives, and got evicted, so they moved to my place.
