The evening was nice and warm, the sun shining through the leaves, a soothing breeze making the flora sing and dance. Leaves and branches crumpled under feet steadily marching forward, the hike was going well. Nearby, a small stream giving off the familiar odors of geosmin and decaying plants. Everything in this forest was at peace...
It was after several hours of walking that Engy suddenly realised he did not recognize his surroundings anymore. At first, he wasn’t scared. he presumed he only had to backtrack a little way to get back to somewhere he could identify. It had been an hour since, panic was slowly creeping in to his head, and he had still not found his way back. He had realized now… He was lost.
Panic was growing, he had no idea where he should go, what he should do. Even though he could identify his cardinal directions with the sun, he just couldn’t find his way back no mater how hard he tried.
"Well... I'm lost I guess…” The man said to no one in particular. “I’ll just walk in one direction until I find something." He proclaimed, reaffirming his last-ditch plan to find civilization. It wasn’t long until he found something. At the edge of a small cliff, he saw what he was hoping to find… a building. However, this one looked out of place. He was able to identify the architectural style. The bigger question was; ‘What’s an ancient Chinese temple doing in the middle of this forest?’ He pondered.
"Since there seems to be no other option, I guess I’ll check it out" Engy mumbled to himself.
The front stairs were cracking with every step, it was the sound of old oak wood being moved for the first time again after many years. It seemed like no one had been here for over a decade. The still setting sun shining through the many holes in the structure made the dust easily visible, flying around like little leaves falling from a tree. ‘This place is very calm and soothing and yet a little melancholic’ he though. A little piece of peace in the middle of nowhere.
Yet, at the end of the temple was something odd. An altar, or so it seemed, holding a very spectacular yellow orb. Looking closer, the orb was spotless; it was even deflecting the light of the sun in a way he had never seen before.
"It’s beautiful..." Are the only words Engy spoke before reaching out his hands to grab it.
I haven't wrote any stories in a long time (And its the first time I wrote a story in english so my friend Pickit was so friendly and helped me correcting it and correct spelling mistakes!)
