[Video] Watch me draw Jace very slowly, very quickly: Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtYjIbEMMPY
Part one of... several. I don't know how long it's going to take... but I am recording it for what it's worth. I haven't done one of these in a while and people have been asking. I'm sorry about the flipping though... that can't make it any easier to watch. It's just how I draw. And yes, my drawing process is as manic as it looks. That's how I am when I am rusty... very undecided about things and very prone to giving up!
This came after more failed sketches than I care to remember. I decided this was going to be the last thing I worked on before I called it a night and as it turns it it's the only one I liked so far. It has a few things that needs to be worked out but I think I am going to see it to the end. Ill be doing this as a change of pace from whatever I am doing so Ill be working on this on and off over the next few days.
Jace has such an great design though... I just had to try my hand at it~
By the way I had a problem with the first youtube upload so I deleted the first submission and am trying this again. And to answer your question... yes they disabled the audio of the first video automatically so now I am uploading one without audio (as I am too busy to use the audio swap feature and find an appropriate song for myself). As for the other question, those are some sort of markings or runes on his face.

Although I have since removed them some of the oldest drawings in this gallery where MTG related. MTG being one of my main inspirations when it comes to drawing! Am I am Avid fan though? I used to be. Although Mirrodin was risky I loved the way it turned out. As for the two blocks after that... I was not excited. I was a fan of the Time Spiral/ w/e block if only for nostalgia's sake but it didn't mean too much for me other than being stoked that Teferi returned as well as Braids... which quickly proved to be a dissapointment because A, she was not part of the story, and B, everything that made her interesting as was decidedly removed (she should have been made into a Planeswalker if anyone.. not Jeska. She was only relevent in 2.5 books! As opposed to 6 for Braids.). So yeah... they seemed to do a lot to draw me away from it. The recent stuff has been fantastic though. Although clearly not the same.. I think they finally moved into a more positive direction. Especially since they started to do more comics which is fantastic imo~
At the moment I am a fan of the art and direction... but not so much the game. Although I liked using apprentice and workstation for playtesting I didn't like the shift to online play via MTGO that people seemed to have made. Although convenient it did not make the game more enjoyable for me. In fact... it killed my years long playing spree.
With that said it definitely wasn't a commission. I don't know who would commission straight up MTG fanart other than myself tbh! (And I just may do that seeing as how I do love a few characters and would be more than curious to see them interpreted in other ways from my favorite artists).

I mostly play standard and it was in the Mirrodin block that I noticed that the format was normally ruled by one deck. I think they've been doing better recently making the playing field more diverse then it has in the past(You see allot of jund right now though). Flavor wise I think they've been doing really well too! Mirrodin was an artifact plane, Kamigawa was old school japan, Ravnica is a world run by two color guilds and so on. I haven't read any of the books so I only know the story of each plane through the cards themselves and the story progression through each expansion.
Magic is an expensive hobby, so I don't understand why people would want to play the digital online version of the same game for the same price. You can't even hold your cards! Try finding a local store that holds Friday Night Magics since thats a bit more social.
Well, you probably won't find many on Furaffinity that would want to commission Magic fanart. Unless of course you would draw up Mirri Cat Warrior or Ajani Goldmane. Jace kicks butt though! He might even turn into the next Urza!

Pretty ill, Jace is most definately where its at.
Should be noted that MTGO is a constant shit slide as well, they were hellbent on sabotaging themselves for years, and only recently have decided that you can now stand a chance at profitting from some of their events, ungodly shuffling issues aside.

I know, right? I used to draw by feathering (scribbling lines in in short bursts).... and the results where random at best. Although I still have to mix and match sizes and settings for the pen to get the best look... with these magical stabilizer I am able to do lines in a single pass which is mind blowing. Doing lines in a single pass... lineart being something I used to absolutely dread.
But yeah.. I use regular pen brushes with S2, S5, and S7 Smoothing settings, the stabilizers.

Now that was pretty interesting to watch. You do things a lot differently in the planning stage, I've got to plan out the whole figure and go from there. I suppose you going from a thumbnail kind of negates that a bit, but you just put all the pieces together here and there, and it works in the end. I had to train myself to not do that, 'cause when I draw that way things come out weird, and not in a good way. It also makes me think that I should probably be flipping the canvas more than I do currently, that's a good habit to get into that I need to work on. It's also comforting to see that somebody far above my own skill level still moves around and resizes eyes and other bits; as well as adding line weight after the line's been drawn. I was sure that was a bad habit I had that I should probably stop, but now it looks like it's OK to keep doing that.
Did I see a crash in the middle there?

I think what you saw was Sai telling me it doesn't like to work with layers it doesn't recognize. At some point I took the drawing to photoshop (who's tools and such show up in the video here and there) to do some cropping/ resizing so I can start the ink and saving an imported file for the first time in sai always gives you this message. if the file has more than one layer.
