Dunno if this helps at all but I sometimes use the "sharpen" filter in photoshop when resizing icons. It messes with the colors a bit but it does come out a little sharper.

Much like last time I didn't mean for any similarities to exist between designs.. but in my defense this design actually belongs to someone else. As for my character, which is still very much in the design process, I am keeping your character in mind so that the end result refers to you in no way, shape, or form.

Looking at it again I know how this must make things uncomfortable for you but stealing your character was not my intention... and I'm sure it goes the same for her.

The tail, the color choice, the ears, gender, everything in that is vastly different than my own character. I merely mentioned it was cute because I thought it a neat and unique rendition of a similar species mix.

Lol, how often do you resize your work that much? Yes, I've also learned the hard way that even my inks don't show up if you shrink them enough. And I've got a pretty heavy pen.

My work habits where developed when I was going to school for graphic design. High-resolution images trumps web outputting imo so bad resizes are just something I have to deal with. It doesn't do much for web work but I hear it's a good habit to have when it comes to printing and utility value seeing as how working at the sizes that I do are not the easiest thing and it's best in the end to get accustomed to it.

This, being at 1000x1000 is the lowest resolution drawing I've done in a year though! I do have a naturally heaving inking style though (LOOOOOOOOVE BRUSH PENS) so everything you've seen me do here is an attempt to do things differently which, as you can see, doesn't always work.

How big do you work? I'd love to see more WIP images to have a look at the process you go through.

It's usually a minimum of 4000x4000. If it was a portrait... I cut myself a little slack and go 3000x3000. Here is an example (the inks to something I did earlier.. NSFW (inks to "Just passing the time")

Wow, how do you get the lineart so straight at this resolution?
I have the problem of getting wobbly lines or "breaks" when drawing at that resolution because I need to move the screen around to get the line finished, and when zooming out shit gets awfull looking.

First of all let me say that every time I see people like you, who I know from elsewhere, comment on my stuff I am always filled with disappointment in that it reminds me of a time when I drew more often and didn't resort to the fun (ie furry porn) stuff just to keep myself from going completely rusty. On the flip side I seem to have a lot more time than I used to (more if I quit the games~) so I'm actually getting more done. The funny thing is that most of the ideas I have aren't appropriate for this site and even though I will post the non-fandom drawings here I can already tell that type of work isn't something most people here aren't interested in!

I have so many DAs though and I am undecided as to whether or not I should resurrect one or start another. That's for another topic though.

I get lines straight by using the stabilizers in Sai by applying the "smoothing" settings leveled S1-S7. Before I used the pen tool in PS but that looked so unnatural I had to give it up. As for breaks.. they happen, but at a much smaller scale seeing as how the stabilizers make strokes much more predictable, though it also helps that using them forces me to draw more slowly if they are to work correctly. I also line using many layers so I can draw at my leisure, erasing where necessary and making any arc or width tweaks along the way.

I don't know if I can do icons just yet but portrait commissions do seem low-impact enough to consider at the very least.

Also when creating icons, the sharpening tool helps big time after the resize. You just have to be carefull not to make it too sharp, or else it'll get all pixelated. :I
