In my pony world, I have three (later four) main rulers: a mother, her son, and her niece (and later her sister, once her sister is redeemed).
I'm thinking, the daytime rulers go to sleep for about 4-6 hours between sunset and sunrise. Their sleep peaks around 2 or 3 a.m., so waking them up at this time could be really bad for their self-control. They wish they didn't have this handicap which makes them feel a bit like werewolves.
I'm thinking, the night rulers go to sleep for about 4-6 hours between sunrise and sunset. Their sleep peaks around 2 or 3 p.m., so waking them up at this time could be really bad for their self-control. In fact, this handicap is even worse for them. Again, they wish they didn't have this handicap which makes them feel a bit like werewolves.
(I might have a story called "Daytime Werewolves" -- where the night rulers have become so sleep deprived that they literally cannot stop their alter egos [the worse nature we all have to overcome] from terrorizing other people's feelings.)
