So for some recent designs I've done, I've used this site called colormind.io to help with the colours. It generates five colours at random, but uses an AI that's been trained on thousands of drawn images, to make them all complementary, i.e. a good colour scheme. Without it I couldn't have made the boy's colour scheme as well-balanced as it is (I've received one or two compliments directed at his colours alone!). Anyway, I was messing around in it the other day, just clicking the random button to see if anything interesting popped up, and this colour scheme emerged: (link) I really liked the dusky purples and oranges, and was suddenly inspired to draw a scalie person showing her back. Last time I used a limited palette I said I ought to do it more often, so here we are! I would love to do some more in future as well. Technically I cheated on this one, by also including a darker purple also generated by Colormind as part of a similar colour scheme. I used it for the lineart. This whole drawing only took me two days. The pose came together surprisingly quickly, and despite all the extra details it still took a lot less time than a fully shaded pic.
She was going to be a snake at first I guess, but early on the head shape was giving me a real headache (HA!), so I thought why not give her some cool hair? Then I put some more hair on her tail and arm, then I added a few more little things... yeah, I don't know what she turned into, but she's definitely not a snake, lol. Since (I guess) she's not 100% reptile I debated putting some sideboob in there too, but decided she didn't need it. The design in general just kind of happened as it went along; the arm tattoo was something I definitely didn't expect, and it's something I've never tried before, but I quite like the design I came up with. I was inspired by this one I found online: (link) My design is of course a lot simpler. But then I liked it so much that I decided to do something bigger with it. For the longest time I was at a loss as to what to do for the background, but the tattoo design provided some inspiration.
Ah, and the pose too - one of my most popular drawings is a back pose: (link) That pic's kind of old, though (but I do think it's held up pretty well), so I wanted to do the best darned back pose I could. I think this is my best work with regard to a face turned away from the viewer. The pose, like all my poses, is original and used several photos as reference, but this time I referred heavily to one in particular, and I think when I first imagined the pose I subconsciously took inspiration from this photo, so I think it's only fair to show it: (link) (contains butt!) It's been in my anatomy folder for a while now (since December 2017, not long after I drew Umbra!!), so I can't remember where I originally got it from. It caught my eye because of the position of the back, so I'm glad I finally got to use it for something.
Anyway, I love how this turned out. I love the colours and atmosphere, I love how well the anatomy turned out... and I love how she looks. The hair, the little fangs, the freckle-like face markings, the curves... yeah, she's really cute... I miiiiight have to draw her again. 😅 No promises though.
