Life update (G)
Now that I've finished the final year of the superior degree that I've been studying since 2023, I wanted to update my situation for those who enjoy visiting this place too. The first two evaluations of the second year were the hardest to overcome. These past 3 months, I've been doing book layouts (choosing the typeface, its size, the space between words, choosing where to put images and text from beginning to end, etc.) and It's been very enjoyable to learn more about these topics :)
The first book that I had to layout was a fantasy novel for a young girl that had 96 pages, called Pierres and the Enchanted Lagoon, I drew the cover art for it and 3 more illustrations for the inner pages.
The following two books that I had to layout were music books, I'm not sure of the equivalent in English (I think middle school or obligatory secondary school?), but in Spanish it's 1º de E.S.O & 4º de E.S.O, they were way longer, and they had a lot of pictures on almost every page, so the procedure was quite different from the fantasy novel (which had mostly the text the author wanted to write), and the last one that I did while I was on practice period was a nautical book for a school called Tempestalia, this was the one that I enjoyed the most, I had to create a style from scratch and start trying different combinations of repetition to have them appear in every unit, it had lots of images, lots of texts of different styles... But in the end, I could only do the first half of the book because my 3-month practice ended while I was finishing the first part haha.
After that, hey told me (since I don't have a contract with them) to compress the file, so another person would be able to finish it for me, They called me when school ended to ask me If I wanted to continue the book while I was at home with a contract, and I was really surprised that the chance even appeared, and I said yes, of course. The idea was to have it done before July 15th. The editorial said that they needed to write a message to the responsible of the book to confirm that I was going to finish the book, but after a few days of calling to the editorial to see If they had any response, they said that the responsible for the book (from the Tempestalia School) didn't write or called them back. So the chance of finishing the book disappeared completely
Also, to pass this final year, I had to create from scratch a fantasy novel with my illustrations based on the Dungeons & Dragons books - Endless Adventure (the ones that lend you to different pages depending on the decisions you make on certain pages). And well, since I never wrote a book in the past (only small stories), It was quite difficult to create it while having to study for the exams. And it was required to pass the first two trimesters to continue with the project, so I had to stop it a few times to ensure that the exams went well (and sometimes they went bad xD, I had to recover a few of them, I've to say). So... A lot was happening every week. But in the end, I managed to get it done, I finished it with 132 pages and 3 additional sections (Map, equipment and bestiary), I learned a lot about the different parts of the books, repetition elements... It's been very hard at times, but seeing it printed feels very good, I have to say...
And now I'm enjoying the first summer days after finishing school. It's very strange to see that I have free time again haha. I plan to start drawing again and finish books and games that I wanted to read and play in the past. Apologies for the long silence; that is one of my curses right now (and thanks for reading this text :)) These are my plans for the immediate future.
