From that day they first laid with each other the spark in their hearts now roared as a single fire, intense in its heat but also a calm sight. Matt had felt his fondness for Isabella grow from company in geeky ventures to the young adult attraction to someone so alike yet so varied. Isabella, equally changed in her feelings for her friend, now lover, was beyond herself that it hadn't happened sooner. It wasn't known to either why it had been put off for so long, maybe beside fear of what they saw each other as if they weren't ready to see. But now they were making up for lost time, retracing past outings as the best of friends, now elevated to something more.
Isabella sat on her bed, gazing into her mirror, thinking what to wear for the day out. They had pictures of the day they were redoing now, back then riding bicycles to the coast, riding shorts and numbered tops with matching helmets, and the little race to an uphill overview of the coast. Isabella found what she could that was most freeing in terms of apparel for a ride down to the coast, one side a stone slope and the other the blue expanse of water. Matt had yet to come back from a drive to the store, no doubt buying something to keep their attention as they sat and enjoyed the view at their destination. It was going to be fun, but now it was something more, and just as the warmth of nostalgia took hold it was quickly driven away by the sound of Matt's engine just outside.
Matt had returned from grabbing several drinks from the market and a few packaged meals, crackers and cheese, their favorite recess snake from their childhood. Stepping out of the car Matt spied a parting of shades in the main room window, and knew he was about to meet with an overjoyed vixen. The door opened and Isabella propped herself against the frame, hand in one of her short pockets and the other gesturing hello. "You're back, and with some accoutrements to today's plans! C'mere, stripes!" Isabella said as she grabbed a bag from Matt's hand and pecked him on the cheek as they walked inside. Their plan was just to sit and talk, enjoying each other's company and what they planned to do next. They had made a little plan in a calendar of what to redo, all just simple things but they took on a new light this time.
Isabella was finishing up with locked the other half of doors when she heard from the garage a sound she hadn't heard in a long while. There was a start of an engine, but not of a car's, but her brother's old motorcycle, having been left behind for whoever could fix it up, and that must've been Matt in one of several pen-and-paper game sessions during those weekends of high school when he had just moved in and Isabella's brother out. Stepping out and locking the door behind she saw him sitting on the two-wheeler, revving the engine in a test, but Isabella knew what he was doing. The spot they were going to had been visited when they rode road bikes and pedaled up a sweat, but this was a level up from that. How he found a way to get so darn charming was beyond her, but she admitted that she loved it.
Matt pondered if it was necessary to go in a car to a place he'd biked to years prior, but then thought why not go again on a bike? He'd fixed it up with plenty of hours, manuals being bookmarked, and lots of trial-and-error before the thing would turn over. He'd only taken it out on test runs around the area when it was just him at home, hoping not to bother Isabella or her family for taking her brother's bike for joy rides. But this time it was purposeful and, he really hoped, understandable that earning it through work and time on it meant it could be used for such an occasion. Isabella stepped into the garage, but the confused or shocked expression he expected wasn't there, instead it was a kind expression of a girl who'd not heard the growl of the bike since it belonged to her brother.
Isabella was quite impressed that such disrepair of the bike could be undone, and no less by her boyfriend, who's skills with a wrench were surprisingly unknown to Isabella; yet she never knew he had gone through the effort for something that didn't have as much value to him as it had her family. It was the only thing her brother left behind, but it was broken, almost like the note he left on with everyone but Isabella, but only meeting Matt once and seemed to like him. Without many words Isabella and Matt had decided to go for a ride, seeing a parallel to their pasts now playing out on the road. They'd ridden along the coastal highway, tails flowing behind them, Isabella wrapping her arms around Matt's midsection as he leaned into the turns and adjusted speed for a turn up a newly paved road up a hill.
They were finally back, Matt thought, noting how their old spot had changed from a dirt path to an actual stop on the drive with lights and signs to mark this spot. He'd pulled into a spot in a far corner of a new lot with benches and tables surrounding the marked spaces. To their relief it was empty, but it didn't quite feel the same as it had years prior, being completely redone from just a natural slope and flat patch of dirt. Matt extended the kickstand and sat upright, boots planted on the ground, Isabella sliding over one side and running to the safety rails overlooking the ocean, leaning forward before waving Matt over. "It's not the same, I know, but this spots has changed like we have, so it's a different experience for a different pair of people." Isabella reasoned, not being wrong, and Matt knew that she was right.
The old overlook was changed, from dirt and grass, but maybe it was its time, after all the pair hadn't been here since their first kiss as teens, the start of their relationship as lovers. Matt stood beside Isabella and draped an arm over her shoulder, which she responded to by raising her hand and placing it on his, tilting her head so her cheek laid on it. "Perhaps the other old spots have changed, and maybe they'll be like this place, different from the past, but showing how much has changed." Isabella said, turning her head to face Matt and look into his eyes.
Matt retrieved their things from the saddlebags on the bike and the two sat on a bench, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company. The midday sun turned orange as it dipped into the horizon line, and the two stood up to return to their transportation. Isabella intercepted Matt as he got back to the bike and gestured him to turn around, throwing her arms around him when he did. She licked his snout as he placed an arm around her back, helmet in hand, and reclined a bit onto the propped up bike. It turned into a long kiss as the stood embracing in the waning sunlight, the evening road lights kicking in and illuminating the pavement. "All this way out here and you didn't even make a move? I bet you were planning that, weren't you?" Isabella questioned. Matt didn't lie, he was rather hoping for her to take her turn on the first move, and here they were, just the two lovers, alone again in their retreat, along a winding road.
