And now we have here is Wolf Creek & Flagstone Locomotive #4!
Number 4 is unique man two main ways. First off, she's the first locomotive to have 6 coupled wheels which makes her an 0-6-0. Secondly, she's also the W.C.&.F.'s first tender locomotive. Meaning that instead of having to carry all her fuel and water she has a trailing car in tow called a Tender. This allows this little steamer to travel farther and longer than her three predisesors. (Engines #1, 2, and 3)
In terms of modleing her she's gonna need a WHOLE LOTA' work. But thankfully I have some help, in a matter of speaking. I found an article online that described how one gentleman built a model of this locomotive. (actually, his model inspired mine. ^^ )
He used an HO scale locomotive chassis, specifically a "Bachmann HO scale 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Switcher" and used parts from an old MDC Roundhouse locomotive kit. (also and 0-6-0 tank switcher)
The boiler and saddle tank will come from the MDC kit as well as the parts for the smoke stack. The chassis will be from the Bachmann product stated above. The engine's cab will come from a spare On30 Bachmann Porter I have. As for the Headlight, Headlight Bracket, Bell, Steam and Sand domes, they will mostly be "S" scale detail parts. Since "S" scale is technically smaller than "O" scale they work very nicely for small On30 scale locomotives like Engine #4. Now, I also plan to have full complete cab interiors and thankfully there's a company called Grandt Line that makes them.
As for #4's Tender, I'll use a spare Passenger Truck (wheel set) as the chassis. Using styrene plastic I'll scratch build the tender deck and body. And seeing how #4 uses a tender it makes things a WHOLE lot easier to install DCC and Sound.
I'm sure that there are many of you out there (mostly train nerds like myself) who would say that these engines are full of character. I whole heartedly agree and in addition I say that these fine little Steamers are also full of WIN! do you not agree?
PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU FAVE!!!!
