"And Here We Go!" *batman reference*
Ok, well to start of my new Art Series here's a look at Wolf Creek & Flagstone #1!
For those of you who don't know, the Wolf Creek & Flagstone is a Fictional narrow gauge Railroad I created and will eventually build a model of it in On30 Scale. A short while back I made a Roster of most of the locomotives I planned on having for the model railroad and thusly, I've started a new series of drawings which are concepts for each locomotive. Sorry for the lack of color, I have a lack of specific art supplies and I don't have the finances to replenish them. Hopefully after Christmas I can actually finish the coloring entirely.
Anyway, W.C.&.F. #1 was built by the H.K. Porter Co. of Pittsburg USA. She's a typical 8 ton model, also known as a "Tea Pot with character". And I have to say, these little steamers are loaded with that!
As for making a model of this engine is fairly simple and requires minimal effort. A model train company called Bachmann makes 2 very nice models of these porters. The 8 ton model (which is slightly different from mine.) And the 0-4-2 Porter, the 0-4-2 has trailing axle to help support a larger fuel bunker. Bachmann's 0-4-0 8 ton Porter has a more modern Arc style headlight and a different type of stack, the name of it escapes me. As for the 0-4-2, it has the old style "Box Headlight" and a tall "Small" Diamond stack. These are what I have equiped on #1.
Both models use the same motor, chassis, and frame so its a simple matter of swaping parts. I would use and 0-4-2 as the base, I'll keep the original smoke stack and headlight. I'll remove the trailing wheel/axle and cab, then I'll replace the cab by using one off of an 0-4-0 porter. That's the bulk of the work, the hard part will be installing DCC control and I'm hoping sound as well.
Anyway, I hope you all like her. I sure do! Many more engines to follow!
