Catgirls aren't even real cryptids. Someone just took a kitsune youkai and made it into a cat because cats are a more popular pet nowadays. Kitsune youkai themselves did the same thing from Kamaeitachi. Kamaeitachi are a Japanese variant of Eta 'water dogs' which were inspired by seals and otters and are the original inspiration for both dragons and vampires. If you wanna be technical goatmen in one form or another predate all known mythological creatures and date back to a goat worshipping religion in caveman times which is Judaism's, Islam's and Christianity's ancestral faith. They worshipped a giant goat that appeared in the form of clouds in the sky and controlled the weather, granting good weather if mankind worked in harmony with nature and terrible storms and natural disasters if they exploited nature. Turns out even cavemen weren't stupid enough not to notice things like landslide only happening in places where there was deforestation. They didn't understand the science behind it but they knew when the heavy rains came disaster was bound to follow. This goat god they called Dur which is kinda pronounced like the word 'chore' today.
