A month ago or so, I had the pleasure of participating in an all-day one-off session of D&D, and this guy was the character I created, my first not to fit my all-too-common archetype of "anxious cleric."
He's from an archipelago of floating islands (Spelljammer world, so no "planets"!) where he and his prodigiously-numbered family cultivate warm-weather fruits for export to the universe's larger, distant settlements. He signed onto an adventure on a zero-g ship mainly due to curiosity about the universe, but also because, as the eighth of nine children, he wouldn't have too much waiting back home in the form of inheritance.
I also designed him with an eye toward character instead of balance in encounters, so he had only one offensive spell (Tasha's Hideous Laughter) and a rapier to use in battle against the giant jellyfish, scorpions, and goos that were our primary enemies. That led to some interesting improvisation, often taking advantage of his flying abilities in the zero-g ether: serving in battle primarily as someone to redirect other party members jumping through space so they would find their targets and not drift off!
Alas, the DM nixed this character for an ongoing campaign, so I'll be doing a new guy here soon...

This is such a really cool story and background for a character, Toledo, I'm sorry he got nixed.
