Reminds me of the comic Avigon. Though the clockworks there had a natural looking skin.
They were not even side characters, but I still love the idea of giant realistic looking lions as 'statues' at the entrance which not only looked decorative, but also served to greet visitors and answered questions about the library like a help desk.

It's a shame you dislike drawing mechanical things (understandably so, they are extremely difficult) because you have done an incredible job with this one. It almost makes me want to get a Clockwork, steampunk-type art from you, but I'd much rather ask for something you enjoy drawing)
