A Mile in One's Hooves
Just some vocal practice for Charlotte and some very, very rough effects experimentation. Also, totally non-canon.

*A lilting melody begins to play with the sound of an enchanted lyre and a mournful set of pipes*
To see and to know and to hear and to show
The world's turning round again.
With the dawn burning bright and the moon's gentle light
Both once lost will be found again.
But where have these powers gone?
And what does this world yet lack?
The magic once crafted by song,
now hollow lays down on the tracks.
Order is truly undone. And chaos, it seems may have won the day,
but still there is hope for a peace, and an heir, and a way!
Turn the night into day, chase the shadows away, keep your light burning bright in your heart.
Let the truth in your blood bring renewal through faith.
Light the way, light the way, till future is come.
[Musical interlude]
The moon's gentle light leaves one burning tonight
sullen anger and wrath hold in sway.
In a righteous crusade, all is lost, all is lain on the tracks where the magic has run.
But what will be accomplished with anger and fear? And what is there left to gain?
Hollow victories assured with old magics secured, but what cost, oh what cost will stake its claim?
[Insert interlude and vocables here]
Ancient forces arise shifting as the tides rolling over the stormy land.
Noble races once fled looking on now with dread will await, still await
The calming light, the noble eye, the chosen youth, or the ancient and wise.
Who will be the one?
Who will claim it all?
Will they rise above or fall beneath it all?
Who will find the truth?
Who will lay the path?
Who will tread the way?
Who will sound the call?
Sound the call with authority?
[Insert musical interlude with greater orchestral backup]
The balance is lost through the land,
now revealed by a traitorous hand.
Tasting power with true love's life.
Now divided heart wrestles with strife.
Though she beg and she plead, still she suffers this need
endless hunger she cannot fulfill.
Still this death-broken heart will play out its part in her role, in her role.
All the tears she cried, all the aching pride,
all the mourning pain driving her insane,
All this empty vice, all this raging fear!
She knows what she's done.
[Interlude]
Mournful trickster cries deep in sorrow's thrall
Every prank he plays is a mask that will fall
All the unshed tears at his double loss
There's no obstacle he's unwilling to cross
To restore his hope, to bring back his light,
truly smile again, quit his endless fight,
putting down his swords, chosing path of peace,
reunited again with all that he's lost.
[Interlude]
Now the land, it cries, as destiny flies
spreading out its hands crossing o'er the land
Keepers of the fate, guardians of all, watching silently,
no longer are stayed.
[Interlude]
As it was before, so it is again,
forces now converge upon mortal men.
Those who bear a curse, carry on the sign,
those caught in a web of another's design.
Those who make their path, those who wend their way,
given power to choose, break the laws as they may.
Who will be their guide? Who will be their call?
which of them will save?
Which of them will fall?
[Ending Chorus]
Who will save them all?
Who will end the strife?
Who will save the day?
Who will bring new life?
Where's the path to take?
Where's the road to make?
Will you follow the guide or cast counsel aside?
Chosen savior come, heed the silent call
You alone must succeed, or end it all.
End it all.
[End with two voices whispering together] End it all/Save them all.

Charlotte: *tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear and beginning to blush* I'm so sorry! How embarrassing. I had a really vivid nightmare... I must have been making a lot of noise. Thank you for checking in on me. I hope I didn't disturb you? *she tugs her pajamas tighter around herself *
Paula: Oh it's fine. *she chuckles* I was already up for a couple of hours just tidying up the place. I just grew concerned. It's probably because... well, we haven't seen Henry around for some time. He is your significant other, isn't he? I'm sorry if I'm being pushy. It's just that I feel like something is not quite right. *she takes a deep breath. balling her fist in front of her chest*
Charlotte: *Leaves for the kitchen and returns with a small tea tray and two full teacups. She sets it on the coffee table and takes a chair across from the couch* I might as well rip the band-aid off. Henry and I had a fight. Turns out he's been cheating with some girl he met in a bar... *she trails off and attempts to rein in the quiver in her voice*
Charlotte: Oh, I agree that he should have to face the consequences of what he did... it's just that he's going through some kind of weird medical stuff right now. I mean, he says it's medical, but it's so damned weird that I wonder if it isn't something else. Either way, it's a lot to handle at once.
Louis lives in an apartment, right? Maybe a stray animal came in through the window? I'm unsure. But I know Louis will take care of it. ...what can I do to make you feel better? We could go out and have a nice meal? Maybe have a milkshake at a cafe? I know a place that has the best milkshakes, even one would feel your stomach up so you wouldn't need tea. Would that be good?
*mentally* I'm so sorry, Louis. I wish I was there to help you.
