An interesting thing I've discovered about the mind... and this isn't just human minds; this spans across the universe. I've found that when a sentient being is convinced of a truth, they will naturally stubbornly hold onto it until presented with a more overwhelming proof otherwise. When that happens, they become exponentially more difficult to convince back to the original.
Not sure why. Perhaps being correct is a euphoria, or they fear being wrong. Maybe it's the entire premise of sentience; that through observing one's surroundings, a conclusion is drawn and locked into memory, and overriding it is conditioned to be difficult so said being is not so easily confused by minor discrepancies and possibilities.
I wanted to translate that sort of idea into this story for an extra panel that, for all intents and purposes, doesn't actually have to exist. You will find that sequence 11 (when it comes out) could directly follow sequence 9. Instead, this is simply some extra padding to draw out the story a little bit.
Why would I do that? A few reasons. To make the sequence of events a bit more clear. To give the story some nice pacing so it doesn't feel rushed. And to repeat things over and over so they have more memorable impact on the readers' mind.
... that, and I like drawing.
At first, our victim here, despite sitting on his own tail, doesn't immediately come to the conclusion that he, in fact, possesses one. The idea is too absurd and ridiculous to even be contemplated, having had spent his whole life convinced both consciously and subconsciously that he, as a human, simply doesn't have a tail. Instead, his mind formulates the possibility that he instead sat on some sort of living thing or pillow that, through some cosmic happenstance, happened to materialize from nowhere and land on the chair. While this, in retrospect, is an even more absurd idea, it's not one that he has been conditioned to believe with every waking moment of his life, and therefore it becomes a more viable explanation.
You will see that idea sort of continue to spread in sequence 11. After that... I might have a little surprise in store for sequence 12...
