Gold Phoenix was the final Aerial Warrior Beast to briefly appear on Ep.55, near the tail end, of the Great Mazinger Anime, and was part of a trifecta along with Great Mammoth and Vulcania, in the final desperate push of the Mikene Empire to achieve victory. Despite his name, he mostly resembles a green lizard with a long tail, with Red, Purple and Pink feathers, with a yellow crest around the head with 8 launchers, with talons for hands and feet. Gold Phoenix was capable of flight, fire projectiles from the launchers around the head, and fire a laser from the wings themselves. His true face was on the head.
Gold Phoenix presence in the episode is brief, immediately been detected by lab's Radar, forcing Tetsuya and Koji, both on heated rivalry since Koji and Mazinger Z return to take action. He fought against Mazinger Z first, when Great went underwater, but the beast proves too agile and powerful for Z, knocking Koji with its laser and capturing him and Z. Great Mazinger comes out and fires its Pressure Punch in the beast's face leaving a hole, releasing Z, but Phoenix still fired and tried to escape before Great disposes of the monster with the Great Burner, as he ignore Koji's advice to follow the wounded Beast to their base.
Sadly, this mark a pattern of division between the two that would worsen as the final battle went on, and the Great Marshall and his cohorts knew it.
