YoshiGamer and BengalKat - Toon Forms
So my roleplay friends gave mention that they were recently in what they called a "toon" transformation roleplay. I thought it interesting and asked to sit in and see what it's all about. One of them sent me a simple example, followed by a bunch of, I am guessing, stock pictures of different kinds of animals with incredibly flashy colors and disproportionate bodies. I mean seriously disproportionate; some of their necks looked like they couldn't swallow anything except for soup.
Then they asked me to try drawing their toon forms. YoshiGamer as a rabbit and BengalKat as a kangaroo, following that sort of strange disproportionate and simple shapes style of art. While I thought it a strange request, I decided that perhaps trying a slightly different art style would help me more appreciate different forms of art, and therefore improve my skills. So I went ahead and gave it a try. All things considered, it wasn't that far off from my original style. I just had to... well, disregard any sort of naturally evolved bone structure and exaggerate a lot of things.
I then made the mistake of showing them my progress and asking if there were any changes I could make.
I have learned that is something that one does not want to do, because the client (though I do not charge for my work) will not be satisfied with anything less than perfection. This would not be so bad if they knew exactly what perfection was in their eyes.
So we had a lot of back and forths where I would send them a part of the drawing and I would make changes based on immediate feedback (quite often multiple times, and sometimes returning to a variation several drawing back). While this particular drawing only took me about two hours to do, it took at least twice that time just making changes, tweaks, and color updates.
No need to apologize for anything, you two. This is all a part of the experience. In fact, I'm glad I got that heavy sort of feedback, because it taught me better how to anticipate what people want in a drawing. Besides, if we did not do all that, I would not have a story to give this one. It would just be another random image.
So, if you enjoy my drawings, I also hope you enjoy the stories that goes with it.
