suddenly his mom came in and Marcus put the ball away

Marcus: I... really don't want to admit it but... she's gone.

[a hug is involved]
Marcus: ... I guess... it just... wasn't meant to be, was it?
Mother: Don't be so down. Did you... enjoy having her with you for a few weeks?
