- he takes his parents' lessons about ruthlessness to heart, and puts the skills in his back pocket to fall back on when approaching a situation in good faith doesn't work
- he meets all kinds of people dressing up as anything but a prince and going exploring. he has an impressively intricate social circle in a nearby town based on the lie that he's a mere knight.
- his parents think he's out of control and dangerous to the kingdom, and put it in his face at every opportunity. it gets to him, but he's usually able to not be completely overwhelmed by it; they taught him to be ruthless and stand his ground, after all!
