A week before the legal hunting season starts here, the normally quite calm deer population goes scarce, almost as if they disappear like ninja. Very rarely, I can come across small pockets of the herds hiding out in reclusive places (which often turn out to be my mushroom-hunting spots) and try my best not to scare them. These two were silent as they observed me, and when they turned to leave they basically tip-toed a little further into the hollow and hid while I moved past. Deer know when a human is or isn't toting a gun and brimming with bloodlust (as the "hunters", or rather year-round poachers who happen to have a legal pass at this time, around here are, wild and reckless shitty drunks they are). They seem aware that I'm only after mushrooms.
