In European especially Anglo-Germanic and French (notably Norman) folklore and Germanic mythology, goblin are ugly and short magical beings with long pointy ears and big eyes, sometimes good sometimes bad. They have been notably popularized by heroic fantasy literature and games in which they always are bad, easy to beat if not ridiculous, don't have any magical power and became green-colored.
