Gargoyles are sorts of water-breathing dragons in Christian tradition, who have different types of faces (human, like the oldie on the right, reptilian, like the big guy on the left, human but with animal nostrils, like the little girl, or avian and feline/canine that I didn't draw) and can turn themselves to stone, sometimes to stone at day in some versions, sometimes to stone as long as there is no danger around the building they protect in others. Indeed, gargoyles are said to have been rather savage and dangerous in their olden days, but Saint Roman is said to have beaten them, tamed them ne tasked them since then with watching over churches and cathedrals, their terrible grimaces and poses aiming to chase demons away. Nowadays we their nature as more ambiguous : have they been genuinely converted or do they dream of getting rid of that task...
