In Japanese tales and legends, tanukis are yokai looking like anthro raccoon dogs with a big tummy they can use as a drum whose onomotopeia is "POMPOKO" and huge elastic testicles (which I haven't drawn because I don't want to have my other accounts suspended) they can use as umbrella, weapon, bindle, drums and other. They are shapeshifters like the fox people, often shapeshifting by putting a leaf on their head, are benevolent and bon vivant, and are supposed to bring luck.
