Welcome back everyone! The weather is finally pleasant down here in Arizona which has lifted my spirits considerably! Also, thank you all so much for submitting such a large selection of music, a record breaking amount in fact, at least in the time I’ve been doing the spotlight. There were so many pieces I wanted to include that I probably could have made a whole second episode. I hope you saved some for next week!
After much debate, here’s the lineup for this week!
Keep all that wonderful music rolling!
See you all again next week!

Holy shot. That Funk Rock piece took me totally by surprise.
Awesome song selection again!
What inspired me to start composing?
No song or group in particular for me, i guess. Although I discovered folk metal for me aroud that time. But I had my guitar since about a year back then and dabbled around with it.
The first songs I covered back then were ballad-like songs like Suicide is Painless by Johnny Mandel and Horse With No Name by America. That and folk metal bands like Korpiklaani and In Extremo had heavier influence on me at that time.
My (arguably) first compositions was induced by a contest here on FA - where I were given a chord progression that I should make into a song. Yea. I started composing here on FA. :D Thank you, Furry Fandom!

I'm really flattered my song was chosen! Thank you! Really enjoy seeing all the different styles that were showcased, keep up the great work guys! :)
As for what what got me composing, I loved listening to video game soundtracks a lot when I was young and would often try to remake them on the keyboard. Eventually, it lead me to making remixes then attempting my own tunes.

You're welcome and thank you! I can totally relate to your story. Even before I discovered FL Studio, I listened to a lot of video game
and movie soundtracks. I would often record them myself directly from the video game or movie onto my own custom mixes on cassette tapes :P

It's amazing how many pieces were submitted this week! And you chose a few of my favourites too!
As for what got me into music and composing, I wouldn't really know... when I was seven I started attending weekly lessons in a local music school, where we'd play xylophones, vibraphones and all sorts of percussion. Years later I started thinking about arranging a few pieces or writing some of my own for the school's ensemble, so I guess that's where I started out, though I've always tried to have a go at writing music since I was about 11 or 12 but I can't say what I started out with was much good! But hey, we all must start somewhere!

Wow, thanks for featuring my work! Congrats to all the great artists featured here.
My musical story starts pretty much the same as most. Started self teaching myself guitar when i was a young’n, trying to play hard rock/metal covers. Met my now husband much later who opened my mind to a broader array of music, especially electronic, and he also encouraged me to put together my own home studio and create my own works. In the last couple years I’m back to being obsessed with guitars again, took 8 months of jazz guitar lessons to get a fundamental knowledge in music theory, and continue exploring different musical styles and genres. Currently into psychdelic, krautrock, and prog rock.

Many thanks for the feature!

Music has been a part of my life from my earliest memories of listening to Enya and Yanni. My mom made sure I got private piano instruction and stuck with it even when it wasn’t fun. That gave me the technical skill to understand how to play music, but truthfully I have always had melodies clamoring to escape my imagination and be heard aloud.
I have terrible eyesight which results in difficulty reading music notation. Naturally, I compensated by relying on my ear to relish the intricate layers music can present. One day, I sat down and played an Enya song that was not included in my piano book and my mom was astonished. When she asked how I could play it, I told I just listened long enough that I heard all the notes.
From there it was a small step to start playing the melodies in my head. I bought a keyboard that didn’t have a recording function which forced me to learn how to connect it via aux cable to my ancient PC and record wav files.
14 years later, you can hear the results of many hundreds of hours experimenting, researching, and working late into the night to bring my musical vision to life. My love of soundtracks inspired me to pursue compositions for orchestra, while other influences like Bionicle and Celtic music added a dash of tribal, electronic, and ethnic spice into the mix.

You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing your backstory! My parents too forced me through nearly 12 years of piano lessons, which I enjoyed some, but not all of. I too learned how to play music, but it wasn't until after a few-year hiatus that I bought my own keyboard and actually discovered my own passion for playing and writing music.

When I started composing: Grew up in the midwest USA and played various instruments in bands since the late 1960's, and often the particular group would come up with songs, with everyone throwing in little ideas, and I also knew many friends who were prolific and good songwriters, so there was never any shortage of material to arrange and record with the many different bands I played with. I lived in Denver from 1979-1989, and became part of the very lively underground music scene for a decade. In '89 I hitched a ride to LA (I had 7 cents and a dog) where I started working as a freelance engineer with artists from Ice Cube to Charo to Englebert Humperdick, but where I knew no one, so to have my OWN stuff to play around with I HAD to start coming up with my own songs. I bought a second-hand 4-track cassette machine and got started. What came out was pleasantly surprising, and still is!
Oh heck! Thanks so much for the highlight and the praise!
As for how I got started, I began as a metal vocalist at 15, was in and out of bands for several years. After I split from a particular band, I said the heck with it, I'm gonna do my own thing. So I started writing my own songs and had to figure out recording so that I'd have something to sing over. I took about 8 months and wrote my first solo album which prompted other musicians to get in touch with me to play the songs I'd written. That was the band I wrote for and fronted live for almost 10 years, the whole time sharpening my writing and recording skills.
That band finally broke up and I began writing and recording songs/EPs in as many different styles as I could pull off. Nowadays, I'm working on a new project that's the most melodic and purely musical material I've ever done.

All of these tracks are great ^^ loved hearing them and your thoughts on them.
To answer your question, it was actually because I started piano as a kid, then later guitar. I enjoyed playing music for others. In high school, I joined jazz band and marching band, and the band teacher was really supportive in my creativity. Because of him, I had the urge to make music. From there, I’ve been making music since. Now I’ve finally made the big step and stepping out of my shadow and into the world as a composer :) weekly uploads, YouTube, SoundCloud, just gotta make a name for myself and I’ll be closer to my dreams ^^

Another very interesting episode, Ikodo. I have to say I don't listen to Hip Hop a lot, but BlackWolf23's track is very nice change of pace. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot like that around here.
To answer this episode's question: I actually started composing, because I had a very hard time finding the right material to practice with and learn how to play the instruments. So I decided to just do, whatever I felt like doing at the moment. I started recording my own playbacks and backing tracks very early on and that is still my prefered practice method to this day.
So it's basically learning-by-doing; or trial and error, I guess. lol Whatever works.
