Let us not forget that Voltorb and Electrode are just balls, Ditto, Grimer, and muk are just wads of goo. Every gen has hits and misses when it comes to design. Even the holy Gen one. I'd say it's best to withhold judgment until the final release, tbh. Kinda silly to judge immediately on the whole gen, based on one leaked 'mon.

Oh indeed. I quite agree, but it seems that with each generation the designs get more and more silly, and that's not to say there aren't great designs in later gens (my opinion or otherwise).
I personally dislike most of the designs of the Ultra Beasts, but give them a pass because they're not meant to be pokemon, but creatures from an alternate dimension, with a somewhat Lovecraftian feel to their design. They're not MEANT to make sense as we understand it.

On the flip side, people often give flak to these strange designs before they use them and find out how good the pokemon is... such as Klefki, who got a lot of flak but turned out to be one of the strongest competitive battlers of its generation.

Who knows... Maybe this blobby-nut with evolve into something cool and/or powerful. Look at Beldum... It hardly looks intimidating at all, and the huge nose it gets as Metang is even somewhat comical... But I sure as hell wouldn't want to come face-to-face with a pissed off Metagross...

I highly doubt it's really Spiritomb's pre-evolution. Because of the hex nut, I can safely assume that it's a Steel-type.
