Mia grew up in Santa Ana, California, where she took interest in surfing. She began at the age of 9 and was competing in competitions by the age of 12.
As a professional surfer, Mia has always loved the water. When she wasn’t surfing, she was swimming/free-floating in the ocean. Her dream was to one day own a beach house that faced the ocean.
When Mia was 23, she traveled to Kona, Hawaii for a large-scale surfing competition. While waiting for her turn, she noticed a member of the volunteered security chasing a man with what looked like a purse. The scuffle that followed had her running over to help. By the time she made it there, the criminal had already escaped and the security volunteer was on the verge of drowning.
As it turns out, the man she saved was a police detective named Akamu Akiona. They talked for a while, getting to know each other, until it was Mia’s time to compete. She won the competition but decided to stay in Kona due to her liking Akamu. Casual meet-ups became date nights, which then became a full-blown relationship. They were married 3 years later and had a son 2 years after that.
6 years later, however, their happiness came to an end. Akamu’s work as a detective had created dangerous enemies and he was looking for a way to protect both her and their son, Magnus. Akamu made the tough decision to send them overseas to Japan where they would stay with acquaintances for the time being. Unfortunately, as the airline neared the Japanese coast, it got caught up in a severe storm and crashed into the ocean. Mia died in the crash.
