Gaisgeach was one of the most powerful sea-going heroines of her age,, but she was not afraid to get her hands dirty either. She regularly rode waves barefoot in order to board pirate vessels before wreaking havoc with her spear "Cluaran", meaning "thistle" in Gaelic.
The letter on her chest is "G" written in the Irish script.
That said, she also was known to carry a pocket pistol in a holster, firing special underwater ammunition, along with a knife. Here in a rare colour snapshot she can be seen about to board the passenger ship Harbin, which had been captured by pirates in the South China Sea, in 1998.
Her actions rescued over 200 passengers from likely enslavement or murder, including a tour group from Japan which triggered her popularity in that country until her disappearance, in 2000.
Giasgeach is my intellectual property.
