Mostly, I read a lot of fantasy books, got really interested in folklore, checked out a lot of books about different critters and stuff from the library and read a lot of wikis. Then anytime I write a TF into a new species I try to go read up a little bit of basic information onto them so I can come off like I somewhat know what I'm talking about.
