I have a little container garden (mostly herbs, a couple tomato and pepper plants) on my front steps, and today I found this little dude on my dill plant! Swallowtail butterflies are endangered, so I'm gonna let this one stay and eat. I can always get more dill, and I'm pretty tickled to have one live on my plants. ^_^

My ex has those in her milkweed patch, and last year we saw a Swallowtail dog fight going on between two of them. The alpha was clearly guarding ITS patch of milkweed, ignoring the other species, but damned if it allowed that other Swallowtail near the patch.
We both were amused at this air battle, only thing missing was the rattle of teeny machine guns.

I'm talking the actual butterflies themselves doing air battles. Her garden is a butterfly paradise and the milkweed patch had the swallowtail dog fight. Queen anne's lace is along with other flowering plants are mixed in.
Monarchs were also flitting about at the same time and ignoring the swallowtails.
