The daughter look like she's almost in a straightjacket in that third panel. I think Chris and Kyle are still in a bit of shock there too.

Kind of yeah, the way her arms are. Of course to this point this is probably the biggest trauma she's ever experienced in her life, but she and her brother both grow up pretty fast for good or ill.

It's kind of one of the defining characteristics for those two, they had their childhood abridged due to what was going on around them.

Not really. Though in the version of the story that this comes from, their power is passed on. Though to get a handle on the series I am trying to restart the idea, so a lot of this may be retconned.
