It was also far from the novels in accuracy. What the modern and 1982 movie special adaptations do differently from the original story is show Bunnicula with vampiric powers; he does typical vampire things (sucking the "life" out of vegetables), but he doesn't have any actual magical abilities. Those were added to make the adaptations more appealing since Dracula was thought to have all kinds of powers, and wacky powers would work perfectly to entertain kids.
